Why can't I get a burnout on my 87 Chevy
« on: July 27, 2016, 10:08:27 PM »
My truck got a 350 5.7 engine and is 4x4, I can't get it to do a burnout what can be the problem? I just finish installing dual mufflers with super 44 flowmaster and a spacer on the TBI I did felt a different but still no burnout.

oil or water will help 8)
but you have a 700r4 in that thing i wouldn't abuse it much, you could shift it into low 4wd and have the front hubs unlocked. but you have to think about how high the rear ratio is and your tires. but in my crew cab with a 350 4l80e 4.10 ratio i had a hard time doing burn outs. after the cummins swap its not so hard now lol

If you have oversize tires and a stock 307 axle ratio it may not ever do but outs

Water will help
Some people use antifreeze
Some people use bleach

Friend of mine in high school had rerouted the windshield squirter to the back wheels so he could squirt soapy water on the tires and do burn  outs

How aggressive are your tires? It will be easier with harder street tires than with softer and more aggressive a/t or mud tires.

The heads on that engine suck and the cam isn't any better.  We put a different cam in ours, it made a huge difference. You have to have a cam that maintains a high vacuum on the TBI engine. Check out tbichips.com. He has a list of cams that will work, and a lot of other info for your engine.  A set of '96 and up vortec heads would really help.

Otherwise, a vise grip clamped on the rear flexible brake line should get the job done. Put something between the jaws and the hose or you'll wreck it.

I have never owned a truck that I couldn't get to burn tire. Sometimes I had to abuse it to do it! You know like back up about 30 MPH, drop it in a forward gear, and mash the throttle!

Blazin,
Somehow I knew you would have the answer.
A-Rod, you got a few good ideas. Have at it. Hopefully you get some pictures to share with us.

i shouldn't be saying this, but also corn oil produces a lot of smoke and  can make the tires spin easier............

Yeah that was not good. Dial in your timing or upgrade your ignition system and put better gears in there.

Well thanks for the input it's the first time I do a burnout in this truck. I didn't accelerate it much at the binging I kind of release the gas then went harder on it. But really I'm not trying to do it often well maybe I will.

This may help just a tad with those burnouts...
