78 K30 full-time 4x4 with manual hubs
« on: October 03, 2016, 04:16:10 PM »
I have a 78 K30 with np203 that a previous owner put manual hubs on. At the moment it is set on 4hi...how does all of this function? I want to make sure I use it properly this winter

Well if your transfer case is a full time transfer case you have to keep it in 4 hi but you can unlock the hubs. Someone did that as a cheap way to help save gas. If you can find a NP205 that would make your whole system a full part time 4x4 when you lock in the hubs and shift the shifter to 4 hi or 4 low.

So with my current setup all I need to do to go back to full time is leave my hubs locked and then I can switch between 4 hi/lo and hi loc/lo loc?

If the truck will move in 4Hi with the hubs unlocked it has the part time kit installed in the transfercase. You can drive in any combination of lever position.

If the TCase did not have the kit installed you would have to drive in high Loc or low Loc with the hubs unlocked, otherwise it would not  move.
With the hubs locked you can still drive in any lever position.
