Which heads for the K10 Suburban
« on: January 08, 2009, 05:03:59 PM »
The engine is a 86 350 Goodwrench replacement, topped with TPI.
I  have a set of new 193`s in the garage, and,  I have already posted on this subject, receiving good advice from Zamboni, but I also wanted to get some opinions from other members. I never buzz the engine up far beyond 3500-4000, so I think my Tuned Port setup should suffice, with a tune of course, after the parts are decided on. Cam suggestions greatly appreciated as well.
Vortec heads omitted, due to crazy expensive lower manifold from Edelbrock, and SDPD.
Thanks!
Jim

i voted world S/R torquers because they have a bunch of good reviews on them and at a fairly good price.. great all around mild performance head.

I would go with the Dart Iron Eagle S/S heads. From what I've read, they can produce a little more power with similar setups than the S/R Torquers. They can be bought too for $650, assembled and shipped! Choose either 165 or 180 cc intake runners and 72cc or 64cc combustion chambers for no extra charge. You wouldn't need the 2.02 valve upgrade. The 1.94s are fine.

I have the Darts (165, 72, 1.94) and like them very much. I only wish I went with the 64cc chamber. With your setup and the TPI, I'd say go with the same as me but with the 64cc chamber. I got mine from Indy Cylinder Heads (Aerohead) for $650 + 100 shipping but I found them elsewhere for $649 shipped. Competition Products I think it was called. They are online. They perform very similar to the stock Vortecs but come with higher lift valve springs (.525") and don't require the Vortec-specific intake and self-aligning rockers.

Hey Chad,
Do the Dart heads have exhaust crossovers for egr? I cant determine from their website if they do or not.
 Thanks,

I think they do. This is where I got them from and it says it accepts all stock equipment. I know I see the heat crossover passage on pics of my heads that I took before I put them on, but I don't know if that's the same thing as for the EGR.

^ Also an excellent deal, especially if dual-drilled!  I know a guy with a 355 that has those heads in a 89 Mustang LX coupe (yep, SBC-powered 5.0  lol) and it runs high 10s. Lots of other mods and juice too, but those heads can make some power.

Have you looked at these?

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL%2D60909&N=700+4294838998+4294925022+4294867081+4294908216+4294840140+115&autoview=sku

For the cam, what are you running for an ecm? Is it stock?
The prom is stock, I also have a prom that is supposedly burned for my app., but have had problems with it.
I was thinking of something like the comp 260 cam, or like you suggested my other post.

Check these out.  That's a great price for a set of bare iron eagles.  Note the reason for this, in case you don't read the full description, is that they are cosmetically blemished.  I'd check with the seller on the details of this blemish before buying, but it sounds like a great opportunity to capitalize on Dart's little mistake.
