ZZ572 & T-56 project
« on: November 09, 2014, 12:06:16 AM »
Hi All,

I got a 1986 Chevy Silverado C20 model with everything as it was from factory.

350 motor
TH-400
Posi 4.10 rear

After months of researching, I decided to swap my 350 to zz572 crate engine (620 hp) from Chevrolet & the T-56 (6 speed) from Tremec. I know that I'm running into an auto to manual conversion here, but I really think manual tranny is more fun and enjoyable especially with this sort of engines.

My goals are to keep it streetable, capable of long road trips, emissions and mpg aren't a problem, and finally I'm not going to drag race with it or beat it but I need the power to be there when camaros mustangs corvettes and other little one are around on the freeway.  8)

Bottom line :
Street wise, I do not want to be beaten at both low and top speed.

I got some questions before I move to the excusion stage:

What do you think of the project in general and have anyone done something similar? What are the results?
Will the rearend works fine with my upgrades?

The zz572 is a 9.6:1 compression, and a performance specialist I know thinks this not enough and recommends that I do an upgrade to the camshaft for even better performance. What do you think ?

Note: I can't go with the other version of the 572 (720 hp) from Chevy because it requires 110 octane.

Sounds like an expensive project.  Just remember whatever you put in it you are still pushing more weight than the cars you describe.  The rear end you have or "should have" in your truck is a corporate 14 bolt semi float.  A better choice would be a full float but yours is still a fine differential.  6th gear is 0.5:1 so the rear end gear is crucial in order to use it.  A 5.13 rear end gear would make it work.
