That was one long sentence! Since you want to keep it cost effective and don't wanna rebuild the engine run a summit brand cam. Why the gear drive though?

LOL. I had to read it real slow too. No biggy. Maybe he wants to hear it with the gear drive or just wants to lessen the chance of a chain stretching. I had it on a 70 Monte when I was younger. I miss that car.

ya the reason i want the gear drive is cuz i like the way it sounds and sry the i made my post so long and i wanted an idea of a cam to use not a link to figure it out on my own i like the way a rough idled motor with a gear drive sounds and the little bit of extra power the cam  8)makes

get a summit cam with close to the same specs as the performer rpm.

afraid the rough cams require more compression than stock and will be a dog.

You will get very quickly annoyed with the gear drive.

I'd definately check out the summit brand cams, but figure out what RPM range you want and how much cam your springs will hold.  You'll probably want something with .500 lift or less so you don't have to upgrade to better springs.  I think I remember reading somewhere that the lower LSA is a bit rougher.....as in 108 will be more "lopey" than 115.  Sorry I can't suggest a specific cam, but my buddy says he enjoyed his Performer cam in his 78 LWB.  I never got to hear it or see it, but he said it was nice.

That's a pretty lousy attitude you have there. We already recommended a summit cam and I asked why you wanted a gear drive. If you want help people are going to ask you questions back to get a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish. It would also help if you used punctuation to allow everyone to better understand what you are asking like adding a ? mark at the end of a question.

Bullet cams has a small lopy cam #101268 LC 110 .458 lift, They used to be called Ultra Dyne. 662-893-5670  A small company with great service. I have used there cams alot. With just about any cam upgrade you'll have to replace the valve springs. And use a quality lifter. Make sure you deg that cam in, using a gear drive it will be off when you think your putting it in straight up.
You will have to modify most any set of headers you buy, seeing you have lowered the truck. All the headers I have bought or seen have one collector that is straight and the other is bent down, there never perfect. The hooker's I have on my elcamino where screwed up, I took a sawsall and cut a wedge out of the collector  near the flange and welded it back up. That made it straight.
I'm not a big fan of the gear drive either(or edelbrock carbs), I have a Pete Jackson Quiet type and It sucks, I'm just too lazy to change it, I have all the parts and a bigger UT cam waiting, maybe in the spring.

Vile,
I was just thinking the same thing!
I am seeing quite a bit of that with the "Next generation"........Because is now "Cuz", and buddy is now "Body"
Anyhow, 83stepside,
the 87 engine that you are using, Does that have the swirl port heads?
