Any one know how much hp im getting out of my 72 454 camper special? And what are some easy to do mods to increase over all performance and reliability?

No one can know your horsepower over their computer but you can increase your performance and HP by making several changes and modifications:

Tuned and balanced exhaust system with headers

Intake manifold & modified induction (carb & air intake)

Cam & timing set, roller rockers

MSD distributor & ignition system

That ought to keep you busy for a while and give you a good start.

A 454 wasn't availible in 1972 in pickups.  They started in 1973.  To give you an idea, it had 240hp when it was new.

As for performance/reliability, the only thing I could add is change to an HEI for improved reliability (if it hasn't been already)

The motor is in a 73 C20 but the motor was built in 72. So I didnt know what to call it.

ok i got the 86 c20 454 chevy truck.
and this is the posting i was looking for..

im new to all this so i need to know. what are good brands for the these upgrades...

as far as prices go. is checker parts alot more expensive then online ebay or same as checker auto parts?
