Engine Pads/Mounts/Stands?
« on: January 24, 2021, 08:21:31 PM »
What is the actual name of the components/brackets that the motor mount bushings and housing actually mount onto? Like the brackets that are bolted to the frame? I’ve seen a host of names, but can’t seem to track down the actual name of this part or a replacement part from online retailers. I’m putting a motor together and found that the bracket on my passenger’s side motor mount assembly is broken off at one corner, leaving me with only *three bolts to hold the entire assembly to the frame instead of four.

I’ve seen these brackets called engine perches, engine mounts, engine frame pads, what are these things exactly? Where can I get one that isn’t a junk yard? And if I do, will they work with a 1998 350 engine being placed into a ‘79 Chevy that came with a 6 cylinder from the factory so long as the mount is from a C10? I’ve read that the mounting points for 6cyl motors are different than the V8s from the factory. Any merit to this? The previous motor was a 5L V8 and mounted up mostly fine, aside from the broken mounting point that I didn’t even know was there.

Upon further research, I’ve found that the frame brackets are the right style, but one mounting point is certainly broken off.

Seems they're called by a few names, but they are different-6 cyl vs 8.

Can you get it welded?

Can't say if a '98 will go in without a hitch, the range of bolt up compatibility was 55-79.

I've been a big help, right???  ::)

Would most likely have the frame holes to convert to a v8. I attached the pics of the engine mounts. Check out the store on this forum and if not available they can be found elsewhere.

Those appear to be the bushing housings and the brackets that attach to the bottom of the motor. What I’m searching for are the subframe brackets that the actual bushing/housing attaches to and that are attached to the frame by no fewer than four bolts. I’ll send a photo here in a few to show what I mean.

The OP of this thread: https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/engine-frame-pads-and-motor-mounts-interchange.6508/ says that his subframe mounts are out of an ‘82 with a 350 and mine are identical. So, it’s my thinking that the previous owner swapped out the motor mounts from the original I6 and threw in the ones for the 5L when he installed it. Not a bad assumption to make that the 5.0 uses the same mounts as the 5.7 seeing as the blocks are identical on the exterior. Still need at least one for the passenger side though, since mine is missing a corner.

Here’s the bracket I’m referring to. And the opposite one which is broken down below.

Ah yes.

Were it mine, I would drill that center empty hole through the x-member and pin it with a high carbon bolt.

Hope you find one, you can check a truck recycle shop I find a ton of stuff in:

Tell him John Michael sent you.  ;D

The Mad Scientist next door owes me 50 bones. He’s gonna grab me one out of the junkyard this weekend or next. If he can’t, then I’ll opt for the carbon bolt. Or hit up Andy first. Thx for the advice.
