New Guy from North Central IL.
« on: October 23, 2008, 04:49:28 PM »
Hey all, I am a new one here. I came accross this site while looking for other trucks like mine. I have a 1981 Scottsdale C-20 LWB. I bought it for $2,000 about two months ago. It's got a crate 350 with about 34,000mi. on it. The tranny is a tight 3 speed auto. It's basically bone stock with the exception of the exhaust and the radio.

The first two pics are of it the day I bought it and the second pair are about the way it looks now.

Thanks
Benjamin.

Thanks guys for the comments.

I might have a new set of wheels, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to steer this thing with them on it. They are atleast 12 inches wide and my stockers are 9.5 inches wide. Does anybody have a simmilar width wheel on a stock truck? I should be able to get some more pics of it tomorrow for you to look at. Also, does anybody know what color this is because it's an enamel paint?

Thanks
Benjamin.

Those stock white wheels on you truck in that picture are 7" wide.  The widest from the factory were 8".

Really nice truck! You are off 40, right? Think I drove through there once on the way to the races at Cordova.

Oh, I thought the wheels had to be the same width as the tires are. My mistake.

Yup, I'm right on 40. Cordova isn't that far from me, yet I haven't been there yet.

I have another question. I bought a B&M Ratchet shifter for an automatic from a friend of mine for $10 minus the clips and cables. It is a 4 speed auto shifter and like I said, I have a 3 speed auto. Does anybody know how to make it work with my trasnmission?

Thanks
Benjamin.

Not real familiar with automatics, you might need a new gate plate in addition to the cable and brackets. Here's a link:  http://www.bmracing.com/s.nl/c.723089/n.2/it.A/id.494/.f

Thanks for the info. I just looked at B&M's website and the shifter I bought is the Unimatic. I need to get ahold of my friend and find out if he found the box to it so I can get the plate and cables if he still has them. BTW, George, where you be at? LOL.

Thanks
Benjamin.

Back to your original question, what size tires are you wanting to run. I have 265/75-16s with 16x8 rims om mine. Steering is not an issue, but the front tires to hit if I hit a dip (but I think alot of that is the 6" channel iron bumper) I am in the process of modifying an aftermarket 3"lift from a 1/2 ton to accept the large 3/4ton balljoints because I have not found one for 3/4 tons. This will help me run bigger tires, but on most 3/4 ton 2wd's the 265's are about the biggest I've seen without cutting the fenders.

The size tires that I have the option to get are 33x12.5x16.5 on aluminum 8 hole wheels. I am wanting to know if I will still be able to turn the steering wheel from lock to lock without hitting anything with the tires? I would just mount my tires on the wheels, but my tires don't all match. I would buy new tires for the aluminum wheels, but they already have a fairly new set of 33's on them and that would be pointless.

Ok, I got some more pics for ya. BTW, I know my floormats are mismatched. I replaced my heater core and put one of the ones that came with the truck on the passenger side to make sure it doesn't leak. I will be putting my Betty Boop mats back in today though.

I dont think they will fit, and not rub without alot of metal work. Also, I advize looking for some 16 inch wheels instead of 16.5.s Your tire options for the 16.5's are limited

Thanks for the help. I measured a few things and they wouldn't fit. So I'm trying to get a set of 16" steelies so I can have a wheel and tire setup like my old truck had. Like this.

Thanks
Benjamin.
