Title: Tailgate trim band
Post by: Stumpos C20 on March 22, 2017, 01:31:16 PM
My tailgate trim band looks like someone used it for rock throwing practice. I tried a search but could not find any info on how to remove it. Any ideas? I also need to find 2 replacement fender Silverado 20 trim badges. Some knucklehead drilled holes in mine and installed them with steel sheet metal screws which are now rusty and just plain looks ugly (yes I know I will have holes to weld up along with the holes in the cab back).

The tailgate band is held on with screws on the inside of the tailgate.

I've also got a tailgate with the band, from a parts truck....are the tailgates smooth underneath or do they have Chevrolet stamped under them, just like the painted ones? Reason I ask, is because someone wants to buy my band and my truck didn't have a band. BUT I don't want a smoothed tailgate with holes in it either. What are the bands going for? Mines in really nice shape....but my truck has no trim at all, so not sure whether I'd rather have the band, or the cash and have to putty the tailgate up.

OEM tailgates, with or without trim band, had Chevrolet (or GMC) lettering stamped in them.

Just did a body resto, removed tgate trim, no holes. I still have the mint cond. trim band. IMO, Trim looks nice, but more to deal with, thus went with the plain body look.

I also need some "stinking" badges. Bonanza or shame, time is running out. Lol

This

I've been on the buyer side of these transactions, nice Chevrolet ones are not that bad, a couple of hundred will get you a decent used one. I paid more for the mint used one on my '87 GMC than I spent on running driving trucks with working air 15 years ago and it took the better part of a year to find it.

This stuff is getting hard to find. Somebody need to start repoping these.
