Electrical Grounds
« on: June 30, 2020, 09:59:10 AM »
After receiving patient and brilliant help this forum , I'M BACK!!!!  Recap= Hauled it home, rebuilt carb, removed tanks (full of rust ), currently replacing with new tanks. Started realizing I had wiring issues.Removed fuse block and found several shorts and did the repairs.Cleaned and replaced all fuses and bulbs in vehicle.Turned the key, it starts, runs and the lights now work. My problem is that the dash lights are dim. The new light switch dimmer works but they fail to get bright enough. I feel like the vehicle electrical grounds may be the trouble on this 1978 C20 454 no factory air. Is there a chart of all the factory grounds available ? I would like to go through them all and make sure I have good grounds.Thank you for any help you can offer. Btw, learned to solder two days ago when I made these repairs, and found the problem wires thanks to a Senior member that goes by bd. Thank you again bd. ;D ;D ;D ;D

You're welcome.  Peruse the technical article Vehicle Ground.  The list you seek is at the bottom of the first page.

Do all of these grounds apply to my vehicle ? Because I'm missing some of them completely.  Missing battery to passenger side frame(is totally melted away),battery to radiator support, I found three unused tabs near the kick panel above the emergency break (should I ??? run a jumper from my headlight/dome switch to one of those ?Also missing hood strap. ??? :o

All apply.  The ground jumper from the headlamp switch to the ground bus strip at the left kick panel often is redundant if the switch already is effectively grounded through its attachment to the metal dash plate.  Grounding the hood with a strap is optional unless there is an under-hood-mounted work lamp or you are experiencing RFI from your radio with the engine running.
