Title: 84 K10 SWB Rebuild
Post by: chastinpittman on September 04, 2017, 11:48:30 AM
So I am getting ready to start rebuilding my 84 K10 SWB. I've grown up around these trucks and know the basics as far as maintenance and replacing parts etc.

My first thing I want to start working on is replacing the engine, transmission, transfer case etc.  The truck currently has a 305 with TH350. I will be using this truck as an everyday driver and would like a better transmission and engine than what is has.

I've done a lot of looking around at engine/trans combos (new crate drop ins)

My question from anyone that wants to way in... should I go with an LS swap or would it be less headache to just drop in a new 350 crate with fitech and a 700R4?  Thoughts?

Ls swap with 5.3 and 4l60e would be good. Yea it will be harder than dropping in a crate. But well worth it in the end

I like the 700R4's, better mileage with OD. From what I understand the '87 and newer were better, but the early ones are fine when built right. Always run a good cooler!
