Camshaft Quandries....
« on: November 21, 2008, 09:35:54 PM »
Okay, so here's the scoop. I've got an extra 350, it came out of a Firebird, and it's got a roller cam, the 14093643 so be specific, but what i'd like to put in it is this cam I came across on the net it's a 14093640, but can't find much about it. It seems to have some crazy specs if what I see is right...

Int. Dur. @ .050": 291
Exh. Dur. @ .050": 202
Int. lift: .383"
Exh. Lift: .404"
LSA: 112"

It says it's a police package cam. So if anyone has more info on it, or knows where to buy one let me know.

The Police Package cam is less performance oriented that the one in it.
This is the real specs on it:
Int. Dur. @ .050": 191
Exh. Dur. @ .050": 202
Int. lift: .383"
Exh. Lift: .404"
LSA: 112"

This is the specs for the other one:
Int. Dur. @ .050": 202
Exh. Dur. @ .050": 207
Int. lift: .404"
Exh. Lift: .415
LSA: 114.5

The cam in it came in 305's with a stick and 350's with an Auto.  Both were Tune Ports.
The Police Package cam was on a carb setup only.

okay, so it is a 191 Intake Duration not a 291 like I've seen on the net then?

Yeah, the cam in there is a great stock cam, and will probably be what I keep in it.

I just say 291 Intake Duration and thought if that was real and I could get one, It'd be wicked powerful, but a 191, that'd be too much under-cammed.

The police package carb'd cams is one you don't want, keep the roller that is in there now.

I've run the TPI cam in a carbed 350 and it ran good (good low end and midrange)

Anyone ever used the TPI roller cam with throttle body injection?

it should run fine on the TBI.  There are people running LT1 cams on TBI setups.
