Title: SMOKING FROM EXHAUST. WATER SPEWS OUT FROM TAIL PIPE
Post by: Dave W on April 22, 2019, 03:51:32 PM
Hello, I have a 1978 Chevy Custom Deluxe 305 2barrel
It was sitting for 4 years.
I bought it, changed fluids, all new fuel system, rebuilt carb.
Seems to run fine.
However I took it out for the first time today.
Smoked like a train, white smoke. Doesn't smell like oil burning.
No water in oil, and antifreeze level stays full.
Sometimes when I start it, it spits out about a half cup of water.
And sometimes I see water under catalytic converter.
Any ideas appreciated.
Can the converter be bad???

condensation can be normal depending on the weather. does it heat up fast or overheat? as long as your coolant level doesnt go down you have nothing really to worry about. most times if you dont get the truck to operating temp then shut it off for the day or whatever then it will produce more water next time you start it up

It has not overheated on me, nor does it seem to heat up.

The guy I got it said it overheated once.
Took it around the block smoked a lot.
Do you think I needed to go farther to burn out water in exhaust?

Check the modulator assuming you have a TH350 or TH400
