RAM Air Box from AIS
« on: July 23, 2020, 02:53:44 PM »
Thinking about adding this to my 87 R10.  Anyone have any firsthand experience with these and/or regrets on installing it?  My truck is all stock other than the full exhaust and MagnaFlow mufflers.  Not really expecting much in performance, but I like the look and a little more air would be nice.

No experience with them but I've always liked those style air boxes. They remind me of old school big block Cadillac air cleaners. Those flex tubes do not flow as well as many think but flow should definitely improve air flow to the filter. Honestly the kit isn't unreasonably priced.

So about 40 years ago, working at a service station as a front end mechanic, I had a customer with a early K5, 454, twin ram air cleaner.

I encouraged him to do what AIS does, he did, said that it was really effective, above 45 mph, no one could touch him when he punched it.

Having said that, going to their site and their gallery, some variant models look totally ineffective, like the '57 Chevy PU.

Others like the sedans with the flat ram inlets flanking the radiator-under the hood? Where is the forced air coming from? The gap between the hood and front end?

More like reverse effect as the air blows past the gap creating vacuum... :o
