Started thursday night to get an idea of how it's gonna fit and to see what needs to be moved. First, I unboxed and bolted the new Phoenix Transmission 700R4 and torque converter to the new motor.

Then we checked for fit and adjustment. Man this thing is a beast.

Pretty tight but figured out that the motor mounts need to be dropped to the lower holes and my buddy decided to remove some of the excess metal from the brake booster mount on the firewall. Should set in there much better now. Back on the motor Sunday. Tomorrow, I'm gonna clean up the tranny crossmember.

-
Thanks Big Bear. This truck is my daily driver and I have been without for about 5 months. I am so ready to get it going but at this stage, i sure don't want to rush anything and make a mistake.

Awesome.
-
your welcome man. i understand 100pct what you mean. dont rush now. im following this build for sure. its so clean...haha
-
Look's really nice, I am jealous.
-
I just wonder how fast that thing is going to be when you are done.
-
Daily driver? Holy crap! I'm impressed. That is an awesome looking set-up. I have a couple of questions, where did you get that motor? Did they supply you with a wiring kit for the 700R4 or did you have to buy one? Really nice work, can't wait to see more.
-
I want a set of those valve covers for mine soooooo bad. I love them. Gotta have the 427 logo.. awesome

No wiring needed other than a 12 volt keyed. The trans has a ground strap. The way that Phoenix does the lockup, when ever it's in 4th gear, it automatically locks. When it downshifts, it unlocks. Pretty cool.

The valve covers were an ebay find. They are made by Ansen in California.
-
I got the new brake lines on the redone rearend.

Had to remove the valve covers to get the motor in. The driver's side motor mount is giving me a fit. I have new energy susp rubbers in them. Any suggestions are appreciated.

-
The mount is finally in. Will post up some more pics after today's progress. Was able to get Monday off so I should be able to get quite a bit done. Waiting on UPS at the moment. Later.

I find it humorous that when I logged on to check out your progress on the 454 I noticed the thread above yours was about MPG's. Too me thats just good stuff.
Keep up the good work.
-
a BB 427 doesnt go by MPG. it goes by GPM!!!

Monday's progress. Trans crossmember is done. Motor mounts...done. Doug's Headers...done. New Powermaster high torque starter.....done. Fuel pump..done. March serpentine....almost done. Here's the pics!

Looks very nice and clean. Love the valve covers.
My only suggestion and maybe you already plan on it is to straighten out the brake lines between the master cylinder and proportioning valve.
-
Headers look great!! Whats the part number, and did you have to modify them? Those are the only things keeping me from dropping my 427 into my Choptop

I bought the headers on ebay about 5 or 6 months ago. They are made by Doug's. Not Doug Thorley, just Doug's. I don't have the part number handy but I will look for it. NO modification at all. They slipped in from the bottom and never banged on anything. They are made just for a big block conversion in a 73-87. Super pleased with how they look and fit. They have a 3/8 flange also. If I find that part number, I will gladly send it to ya.

Its pretty much the same stuff, one of the companies formed as a result of the owner's divorce.

Hope to get it fired up this weekend.

Got the tires and rims on. Look for that in tires and wheels....posted a few pics there.
-
looks amazing. good luck . hope she fires right up
-
This thing looks slick.
Looking at all these build threads makes me want to get started on my old dually......not enough time.
Keep up the good work though, I enjoy looking at pictures like these.
-
About how much does the engine weigh?
-
I'm not really sure about the weight but I know that it's much less with the aluminum heads. I did replace the 30 yr old springs in the front as well as rebuilt all of the front suspension. Should be able to handle it just fine.
-
soooo...the suspense is building man.haha. you get her running ?
-
Just a trial fire up the other day. No issues at all. Gonna try to get time this weekend and run the wires and radiator and all and start it up and let it idle. It is soooooo loud with open headers. It sounds super strong. The Holley Street Avenger worked right out of the box as advertised. The cam sounds great. Maybe I can post a vid or at least an audio clip after Sunday... ;D
-
awesome!!!! hey that will tide me over for now. haha
-
So Fidd, whats happenin here? I wanna see some smokey big block burnouts ;D
-
that makes two of us !!

Are you saying that the converter will lockup as soon as it goes into 4th...as in, any time it's in 4th the lock up in the converter is locked? Or just that the clutch won't lock up in 2nd or 3rd...just 4th? Lorne
-
Won't lock up in anything but 4th. I'll let in ya know more in a few days when it's on the road.
-
Worked on the engine compartment today. Wires all cleaned up. Tranny lines measured and ran, just need to install the cooler. Put on a GM Performance air breather. Got the other fender on and just gotta get everything lined up and bolted up tight and get the fans wired in. Whew....what a bunch of bolts. Man things sure slow down during this phase. Hopefully on the road Wednesday (my next day off). Hope everyone has a great and safe Memorial Day and remember the reason for the day. Here's a few recent pics.
More to follow soon.

Gonna try to get time this weekend and run the wires and radiator and all and start it up and let it idle. It is soooooo loud with open headers
That looks great.
Just a friendly reminder though... If you are running a flat tappet cam you will want to avoid letting it idle and do the proper cam break-in procedure. If this is the case you will not want to use those new headers right away because it could ruin the coating. If you're using a roller cam disregard this post. Nice work
