Title: Mystery part
Post by: Spooky275 on March 21, 2018, 08:22:56 AM
Sorry if it's something painfully obvious but me and my buddy can't figure out what this part circled in blue is exactly. It's in my 84 c10 with a completely stock 305. It has line to the evap canister and a small hole in the back with a broke off hose fitting inside it which I think was line to the carb. Can anybody ID this? Thanks in advance.

Hi Spooky:
If the little device you have circled has at least one hose back to the ECS vapor canister, then it probably is a thermal delay valve for the ECS. The thermal delay valve prevented ECS vapor canister purging until the engine was warm. There was quite a few changes in the design of the GM ECS system for your vintage truck, but I am sure that little device is a ECS control valve. If the connection to the carb is gone, you would want to re-connect it or at least make sure the carb end of the connection is plugged so the carb doesnt have a vacuum leak.
Regards,
Henry

It might tell you what it's called on your vacuum house diagram on the radiator support. Looks like part of the air injection system. Might be a dealer only item. I couldn't find anything that looked like it on rock auto in the emissions section.

Automatic or Manual, Federal or California Emissions, High Altitude or Normal? Look at the VECI label

Thanks everybody.

Edit: found out it's a deceleration valve, if anybody ever runs into the same thing.
