How deep is the broken bolt? If it sticks out just a little, welding a nut to it and letting a candle melt near the base should let it come out.

It's about 1/8" into the hole. I'm gonna try the nut trick and see if that does it

I'd be worried about welding it straight to the head of its in the hole. Take a small drill(I start at about half bolt diameter) and drill into it-you could try a left hand drill bit, and oxy-acetylene heat, it may come out. Broken bolts under the head surface are the hardest to remove.

The head is aluminum so it shouldn't weld to it but I'm gonna have to be careful and build it up and then do the nut trick

Right, forgot head was aluminum, I'm used to the cast iron ones. You shouldn't have too much trouble then with careful welding.

Solid looking build! When I get my hands on the crew cab I'm looking for, I'm going to slowly amass the parts to do a LQ4/NV4500 swap from an early GMT800 in the future.

Thanks! I'd have gone 6.0 but I got the 5.3 in running condition from my buddies truck for $500 with anything from the truck I needed so I couldn't pass it up. If I find a good enough deal on a 12v Cummins I'm gonna swap that in and put the 5.3 in my Lexus LS400 haha

I'm actually also looking for another 6.0 for my Mercedes to retire it's V8 and toss in a T56 behind it as well, but I need another daily driver first.

A Cummins swap for the future truck is also on the table, as is the 6.2 DD found in the CUCV, but I'm not sure if there's a compatible manual transmission for that motor and being able to work with the transfer case for 4X4.

That's what's nice about the NV4500, I can convert my GM one to a Dodge input shaft and bellhousing, and it will bolt right up

Yeah, that is nice! It's a great box and does well with towing too.

I want to build the truck up for work, not necessarily gobs of power; so anything to increase how hard it can work is what I'm all about!

Beats spending $50k on a brand new Ram (which is the only new truck I'd consider just because they still offer a manual!) that's overly complicated by electronics and too nice to use as a "work" truck.

Any GM trans that was bolted to a SBC or BBC will bolt right up to the 6.2L diesel.  NV4500, NV3500, SM465, SM420, etc...

That's great to know! As long as I have options for the future.

The motor is together! Very excited!

Before and after haha

Had to get some shots of my buddies 350 going in his square with it :)

Next is a flywheel and clutch kit so I can bolt the bellhousing on and drop the motor in the truck, then I'll install the transmission after cutting a hole in the floor for the shifter

Clutch kit, ARP flywheel bolts and pilot bearing is here, flywheel and new engine mounts will be here next week. Then I'll bolt the bellhousing on and drop the motor in probably
