Good mark cowl hood adjustment
« on: September 30, 2016, 08:47:35 PM »
Bought the Goodmark cowl hood for my 1974 Stepside and the dang thing won't close. I took the springs off and still won't. I'm half tempted to sell it and buy OEM cause it's so annoying.

Have any of y'all had the issue? The aft section (close to the windshield) is the section that doesn't rest and align with the fenders.

Isn't there a stud on the cowl?  It has been a while since I had a 73-80 but I remember seeing one and i always thought it was more of a safety feature in the event of a crash the hood isn't shoved into the windshield?  The stock hood has holes that goes over the studs, maybe your new hood doesn't have them or they are off a bit?

Yeah the hood has these hole and my truck has the studs. They are a little off. I can try just simply removing the studs and see how the  hood aligns.

was going thru and saw your post. I have the same issue with a steel goodmark hood. I found out that my air cleaner was hitting it ( the nut on top)(I also have a spacer on the carb so that doesnt help)so had cut a bigger hole on the hood.  I also had to notch the hood hinges(I know but this woorked for me)

How did the factory hood that was on it fit?  Is it physically hitting in the back?

Generally this is a problem with the hinges.

I had what appears to be a stock hood with aftermarket hinges that gave me the same problem.  I ended up elongating the mount holes on the hinges so that they sat in the proper position to bring the hood down.  I don't know whether the after market hinges just don't work on the older trucks, (Some things changed at around 1976 and there are a lot of parts that are separate for 1973 - 1976 and then 1976 to about 1980 and then again from about 80 to 87.  I suspect the after market hinges would work on newer trucks but not 73 thru 76.  I have not seen an original hinge for a 1974 so I don't know that for sure.  Hoping maybe there is an expert out there who knows about this and maybe knows where to get the proper hinges.  If you know of any source for a hinge that will work on a 1974 please sing out!

Thanks for your reply,

ricky
