Dome Light Door Jamb Switch
« on: August 08, 2017, 10:06:34 PM »
My passenger side door jamb switch is missing on my 86 K10. So I am going to AutoZone tomorrow and buying a new switch. Problem is the white wire that is for the dome light isn't in the hole. In fact I'm not so sure that the segment for the passenger side is even present. So upon installing the new switch, I will dismantle the dash and run a new wire over to the kick panel. Is there an easy way to get the wire through the hole to connect the switch? According to the wiring diagram, there is a grommet. I've had the kick panel apart and do not see a grommet. Thanks for the help.

The white wire is routed high up on the kick panel and through a small grommet down into space behind the switch.  You may be able to look  at the other side and figure out how to run it through.

The other solution, which I used to run speaker wires and power lock wires, was this. Remove the plastic kick panel on that side. Pick a point on the metal (behind the plastic) that is about even with the switch, and in from the edge about an inch or two.  Drill a 1/4" hole (with a grommet) through that area and snake a wire from there to the back of the switch.  The hole and wiring will be hidden once you reinstall the kick panel.

I got it wired. As it turns out the grommet is kind of above the glove box hole. Started to remove the kick panel and saw the wire finally. Its pretty well concealed underneath the glovebox plastic. I ran the wire through the cab first with a piece of steel wire and pulled it through. Then I tightened the switch and connected the ends of the wires. It works great now. Ive pretty much got all of the mess from the previous owners wiring hackjob cleaned up. Its a real mess under the dash. Wires everywhere. I'm going to re-wrap all the harnesses once I get everything ran back to its proper place.
