Forward Lighting Harness Replacement
« on: October 22, 2017, 07:52:14 PM »
Anybody know of a source for a forward lighting harness replacement on a 1991 Crew Cab (quad lamp)?

Not really. If I were going to do just the front lighting, I'd get some wire and just do it up.

Pages A-26 and A-44 have the wiring diagrams. http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/7387CKMans//Wiring/X_9130_1991_GMC_RV_P_Wiring_Manual.pdf
Wiring colors are black, tan, light green, dark blue with orange stripe, dark blue, and light blue.

Yeah...I could rewire the harness...just takes more time.  Truck has already been down a year since the 454 started knocking and I initiated the LQ4 swap.

LQ4. Nice. My buddy and I are working on an LQ9 for his wife's '81 Camaro and we yanked the 454 out of my '84 C30 3+3 Camper Special and put in a built 383. I myself occasionally wish I had done a LQ4...

The cost of an aftermarket FI system for a built 454 was more than the cost of the LQ4 Conversion, considering that the LQ4 didn't need rebuilding and the 454 did.  I wasn't about to rebuild a low-compression 454 with crappy TBI heads and just stick the GM TBI back on it!  But...I will say...it hasn't been fun all the time doing this conversion!

I actually picked-up a nice forward lighting harness from the local Pick-n-Pull this weekend, out of an '89 Suburban.  It doesn't have the aux fan wiring in it, but I am sure I can modify the wiring to include it from my truck.  Or...use the harness to replace the few little nagging things on mine that I don't like.

You will love the LS when you're done

We tried a TBI on my 350 and finally gave up and got a used 5.3 and harness and computer for $650

It easily has twice the power of a 350
And the 5.3 I got had 240K on the clock and we didn't do anything to it except new valve cover I take and oil pan gaskets
And new water pump
Bolted a NV3500 five speed behind it and it's a blast to drive
Even with 3.73 axles and 35 inch tires

Roundhouse;

What did you do to plug up the large pass-thru hole for the OE computer behind the glove-box?

Here are my threads:

Lots of other stuff going on besides just the conversion.  Taking the time to fix little stuff and then in the act of getting to the little stuff, fixing the stuff that I take off to get to it! LOL

I still need to figure-out headers.  The Schoenfelds did not fit worth a darn!  Want long-tube headers.

On my 85 I used a large rubber plug, found a kit that had a multitude of sizes to plug firewall holes, and also to plug any oil holes(for rust preventing) I planned on drilling.
