Title: 496 STROKER INJECTED
Post by: 123 pugsy on June 28, 2010, 05:10:14 PM
Hi Guys. Its been a while. I'm still around checking in every now and then.
I figured this would be a good forum for discussing an injected big block as they are truck engines.

I'm thinking of stroking a GEN VI 454 to 496 and using the Vortec intake.
I'd like to get over 500 LBS/FT of torque and close to 500HP.

Does anyone know if this is doable with this intake?

I was thinking of using GMPP aluminum heads. a higher lift cam and about 10:1 comp ratio .

Any thoughts on this?

Oh yeah...here's a peak of where I'm at with the ROD.....

Thanks,

I think it is doable especially with a BBC.

How about the stock wiring and ECM from a donor truck? I'd like to run a 4L80E as well.
I guess I would need bigger injectors. Can the stock computer run these or is there some kind of reprogramming available?

500hp?....Dude you'll knock that figure out of the park easily with nice aluminum heads.    I don't know anything about that intake though.  That car is awesome.

Thanks.

Its the intake that has me worried.
I've read about modifying the upper half but haven't seen anything on how its done.

I also saw on ebay a 78 mm throttle body for it but its only like 3mm bigger than stock.

Hate to put it all together and found I've built a dog.

We are blowing 17lbs down a stock 6.0L plastic intake with a slightly bored Throttle body and making 500+.   I think the stock intake will handle it.  The heads are the restriction  Get some off a 502 (Mark V)  or these: http://www.raylarengine.com/cylinder_head.html

I don't think you could put a 8.1L together and NOT make good power.  I would use the ECM also, just have it tuned.

Is this a Vortec 454?  Couldn't you buy an aftermarket aluminum intake with injector bosses and use an adapter or 4bbl throttlebody?  I think that's what they reccommend on the 454ss site for the TBI guys.  Then you'd need a new tune on the ECM.  That's also what some are doing with the LS motors too.

Yes, its a 7.4 Vortec.

I like the aftermarket stuff, but I'm trying to build on a bit of a budget.

The GM heads are the best price I could find for aluminum heads complete. They are the same ones used on the 502 crate engines.

I'm planning on using a GearVendors unit behind the 4L80E to hopefully pull off some decent mileage at cruise.

Ya, I know, a big block and good mileage don't mix.   ::)

I've read good things about those heads.  Maybe you could have that intake ported and matched to your heads.  I know a few places that will do port matching of the intake for around $150.  The LS guys are all over the throttlebody upgrades...bigger ones, ported ones, and tricked out ones....so maybe it's worth a try.
