CS series alternator upgrade?
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:20:48 AM »
For anyone who has done this. what adaptor part number did you use. Do I need one with a resistance wire? Now that I have my high powered stereo system installed I'm in need of a better charging system. I'm also going to have fog lights running as well anyone?

What's under the hood??? If you have to ask maybe we shouldn't race!

I am curious to find out your answers. I think the resistance wire is needed if you have a gauge instead of light.  And I have a 4.3 V6 in my driver but I built a 350 for my square.

Yea I saw that cap, but I'm just trying to see what the end results from people with our trucks have had. I also found this site that was a little more helpful

I used the connector ec-82 bought from napa for less than 20 bucks, and it works perfect. I have a 86 chevy pu with a 350 with a factory volt gauge. I didnt have to use any special brackets either, a direct bolt in.

I put a CS130 105 A in my '69 Chevelle.  I didn't use any adapters though...I rewired so it looks factory.  It's been in there for about 5 years with no problems.

Here's a link to my CS130D Upgrade on my 78 C20.

I've had 5 or 6 of the old style alts and none lasted bearings problems n such mostly.

This alt has been in the truck for over 2 years and not one single problem yet.  I love it and would buy another one and from the same people no question

FYI.  You can fot almost whatever belt pulley you need to it.  I got a serp pulley cuz that was the setup i went to, as the V-belts weren't lasting the strain the higher amp alts put on them.

Thanks this is all good info! Note to self v belts don't last long after they've been run with the higher amp alternator... I think I see a gator back in my future :-) or two

I noticed two things after reading your thread. The One you have the cs130 alternator body style, which is the reason for no installation issues. I'm wanting to get the cs144 and that has a bigger case. I may just end up with what the junk yard has also the need for a smaller pulley... Did that solve your lower than 14v charging issue at idle?
