Need a key on 12V source:
« on: November 20, 2016, 08:26:54 PM »
It's getting colder and i think i've run out of slots on the fuse panel for a 12V source for the choke;  i cannot yet run this off of the 2-prong plug near the oil filter because 4.3's are actually a little different in that area  (the sensor is too short whereas on a v-8 it would work) and i don't have time to mess with that right now.

Where else besides the fuse box can i get a key on only 12V source?

Or, if there is a way to add circuits/fuses to the fusebox, how would you do that?

My '75 has a brown colored key-on wire that comes out in the engine compartment near the brake booster.  In my Camper Special  truck it is used to activate the charging relay for dual batteries (the camper only draws from the driver's side battery when ignition is off).

I think that dual batteries continued to be an option in later years, so that wire may be in all the trucks.

i never did it with a key on but i ran a hot wire from my battery to a Connector Block and ran the hot wire down one side looping into each screw. this allowed 6 or so things to be hot. you could wire a relay to it so its only on when hot or even just wire it to your fuse box (careful of your amps).

Why not use the factory wire? Your best bet is to piggyback off of the oil pressure switch.
