Backup switch
« on: September 28, 2012, 07:23:44 PM »
Does anybody know if the backup switch is part of the neutral safety switch located at the base of the steering column. Pretty sure it is cause I remember unplugging two connections from it but only have the safety switch reconnected now and can't get lights to come on when in reverse. I'm rewiring an 82 Sierra and I'm just about done. Just tying up all the loose ends.

Yes, the back up switch is built into the park/neutral switch on a automatic transmission.

Here's a wiring diagram for a 82. Looks like the light green wire is for the back up lights.
