New starter in truck, with jumpers on battery, no start.
« on: February 16, 2011, 03:33:06 PM »
I just recently put a reman starter with a lifetime warranty on my 85 Chevy C10. Battery had enough voltage to power the headlights and all other electronics. Tried to start but only got a click. Had a friend jump me, but again only got a click and then everything that was on, (CD Player display, and e-brake light when key put to start) went dead and had absolutely no power. Battery maybe? Any suggestions or advice?

Check your grounds and make sure it is all wired correctly.

Sounds like you may have one of the wires touching the starter housing which is a direct short. Check the fusible links and make sure all the wires are isolated from ground.

If not the problem, you got a bad starter, not the first time, and wont be the last.

If he has no power now with the key on it's not the starter.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check on the wires and make sure they aren't making contact with anything they're not supposed to, pop a new batt in and see where it goes.
