Fish carb? Anyone have one going??
« on: December 03, 2007, 10:37:42 PM »
Been tempted to buy one on the bay and experiment.  Got a manual and a brilliant coworker of mine has had several on older cars and swears by them.

interesting... a brilliant engineer now a chemist ran these carbs back 20 years ago when gas mpg really sucked.  He was getting nearly 30 mpg with a Buick 350 in a mid 70's Skylark.  It really ran well.

I am toying with obtaining one of these for my 350 I am installing in my 86 C-10.  I am trying to build a gas economical fun to drive truck with economy in mind.  I will have a final drive of 1.9 through the New Process 4 speed Overdrive stick with the 2.73 rear end.  The cam in the engine is designed for towing and should give ample torque to pull it.  The engine came out of a Suburban I bought and parted out that really ran great, seemed to have a ton of power even with the 3.08 in it.  I may find out I need a lower gear, 3.08 (2.2) or 3.42 (2.4).  If I can keep the rpm down without lugging it gas mileage should be decent.  I get 15-16 with my 454 with my 3.21 gears and tall tires, seems to almost idle going down the highway.  If I actually find one I will post in the projects.  I have the 91 page Fish manual, so....just need to find a Carb suitable for a 350...

wow man, those are cool!  i had heard of them, just forgot about them.  if you happen to find more than one (doubtable) PLEASE let me know, i'd be very interested to try one of these beauties!  it would be quite the conversation piece...and it would be sweet to out-do my in-law's '07 4.3 Silverado in gas mileage and have more power!
