"Best" aftermarket sheet metal
« on: July 27, 2014, 06:59:47 PM »
I know it's been asked and I've been searching around but most of the answers haven't truly pertained to my truck. I have an 87 gmc Sierra r 1500 short bed step side that I'm restoring but I need both rear fenders, probably both outer cab corners, and at the very least some front fender patches. Sounds like a lot but honestly the body is in great shape I'm just picky.

I've been looking for originals but no real luck on the rear fenders so my question is does anyone mind sharing their thoughts and experience with the after market vendors. I've found a few but most of the info I've got is for the wrong year trucks and I want to make sure before I drop a lot of money. Thanks for your time.

I bought a bed off of an old 1984ish M-1008 CUCV. Only a few dents and no rust. Look for one of those if you can find one. I gave $150.00 for a complete bed.

On the doors, fenders, hood, and cowl panel if you search out 1988~1991 Blazer/Suburban/R-V factory sheet metal parts they will be galvanized. They don't rust, but do take a special primer.

I believe the patch panels are available from the site owner here.

Welcome to the site, as Engineer said, Email Chris (Captkoas) at the site store (above link, to the right of the forum button) with what you are looking for and he will get back to you.
He sells quality pieces at a very reasonable price.

And if all else fails and I'm not able to find original fenders, does anyone have experience w/aftermarket ones? The site here doesn't have him and I though I read a post where he said he hadn't had them in awhile.

Just keep an eye on Craigslist
The fenders should fit any year but the gas filler is different on some

That's why we paid $800 to get a K-10 stepside 4 speed shipped from AZ

No rust.none   Not a speck .

Mechanically its a junker
Needs all new wheel bearings, tie rods, rubber brake lines rotten , interior is sun baked and useless
. But I can fix that

They changed the reflectors at one point too right? Mine currently doesn't have any reflectors on the rear fenders. When's the switch?

Reflectors? The front fenders have side markers but not the rear fenders. Is that what you mean?

Step side rear fenders have come in many different styles, and some times plp have just modified them also.  So you could have seen a set that someone for safety reasons put on reflectors on the rear fenders.

Stepside fenders that has marker lights were 73-78 and had a round exposed filler hole.  Right has has the filler (no dual tank fenders offered anymore.)
79-87 had square gas door no marker lights. Left has has the filler (no dual tank fenders offered anymore.)

Having no luck on craigslist after a few weeks. It's time for the aftermarket route. I have to get this thing moving before the baby is born. Opinions on best bet to find some step side fenders since it seems like I'm forced that route (unless something pops on craigs the next few days).

Look for a whole truck

I saw a K10 stepside that was missing the engine for $500

Depends on where you are located.  Have you tried looking a little farther away ?  You might have to drive a little bit to get them.

Email me what year you are looking for and I can get you a price.  It WILL require truck freight shipping.
