Title: 2001 seat into 1985, how will it fit ?
Post by: 756man on November 17, 2010, 11:02:30 AM
Got a chance to buy a nice 2001 Base seat w/o flip down console. Will it fit into my 1985 3/4 ton GMC  without major fabrication ?

I attempted to do just this on mine, took the time and made them as low as i could with custom brackets and no sliders, i thought i did good but i was wrong, when i first got in my head almost hit the roof and my wheel was in my gut. I was so depressed but at least i got the seats with console and rear ext cab seat for 50$. Also i can now mount those wonderful seats in my dads 51 that we are restoring, and not be a total waste.

it can probably be done, but im just too tall and not thin enough to make it work. pity because they are comfy....

I did just this to my crewcab.  You will have to cut about 4" in heighth out of the section where the seat goes.  Unless you plan on puting the fuel tank somewhere other than it's stock location you won't be able to do it.  Since I put mine between the frame rails it was not an issue for me.

Why does the fuel tank have to do putting the seats in? I don't know about your truck but the tanks are under the bed not in the cab. I have some with a jump seat out of a 2002 hd I'm going to install in mine, i don't think its going to b to hard.

the tank was brought up because the floor in the trucks are raised up where the front of the tank goes under the cab, even if your tank was relocated to the bed, there will still be the raised section. There was no way i wanted to relocate my tank and cut the floor up for those buckets, so i couldnt make them work. If you have the time and skill you can flatten the floor like it is in blazers/ect but that was what the issue was raised about.

I have these seats in my 91 crew cab and imo the best way to do this is to use a blazer floor pan and flatten out the hump under the front seats. However i was able to mount them in my truck as a temp. setup it works for me but only because i am 5'8" and have tilt.
