Exhaust Upgrade
« on: September 09, 2007, 10:52:39 PM »
Im going to be upgrading my exhaust on my 73 C20 Cheyenne Super rocking the 454 ;D. But anyways its got 2 1/4 inch pipe on it. Im pretty set on getting 3inch duals. Will I be gaining any performance out of this upgrade. And should I go out the back or side?

Ill post pics of the whole truck after I get my exhaust.

small pipes= tq on the low end
bigger pipes=hp on the top end.

def go out the side, in front of the wheels. thats what i did and it looks sick.

stock really sucks

Exhaust looks much better after the rear axle IMO and pointed to the side. 3" with a 454 is just right

I had then turned in front of the wheels for a while and it just didn't look right and was really loud even with super turbos.  I would run it out the back past the axle and turn it out the sides.

hey 197, i have the exact same truck as you lol except the previous owners of mine swapped in a 350 for the 454 because the 454 was having major issues. right now it has a 2 into 1 crossover with single glasspack, its nice and loud but im gonna eventually upgrade to a 2.25 inch true dual exhaust with glasspacks that exit in front of the rear tires. of course to each one his own right?

I think im going to get 3 inch out the side behind the rear wheels. Should I get it angled out or just straight out? I hate glasspacks with a passion so flomasters or something else im going to get.

Will I gain any mpg from this upgrade?

id suggest you go with the flowmasters, those sound the best IMO. im just getting the glasspacks cuz they're cheap. it seems like youd get maybe 1-2 mpg with the bigger exhaust due to better flow, but i could be wrong. anyone else know?

It looks great, but I got 2.5" insted of 3" the exhuast shop, said that the 3" Duals wont have enougf backpressure. Witch might cause valve damage. It sounds AWSOME and looks the same.

It costed $475 for true duals and the mufflers and tips. From the manifolds back.
