Shims on hinges
« on: March 11, 2018, 07:34:18 AM »
1984 c10 I just bought. Trying to align the aftermarket door prior owner had painted with the old hinges I rebuilt. Need adjustment than I have for the rear body line with the cab. Can I out shims between the hinge and the door?

You can, but there is adjustment through loosening the bolts that hold the hinges to the door or the post. Do you have both the upper and the lower hinge bolts loose? Adjusting a door is usually a two person job. I have done it with a floor jack but it can be unwieldy. If you are beyond what the hinges can adjust to. I would look for damage or old repairs. Good Luck, David

Whole door needs to move to the rear about 3/32. Prior owner bought new doors and I don’t think this one is perfect. It’s painted though and budget wise I would like it to work for now. Messed with it more today and I can love with everything but it just won’t clear the fender to open

On the plus side, passenger door came out perfect. I was more worried about it when I started. Go figure

Is the front fender removed?

Fender was off. Man this wasn’t a fun part of the project. I didn’t have the fender out from the truck quite far enough. I never realized how little clearance there was when the door opened. It looks ok and seals so it will work. Gaps are a bit out of spec I think. Fender to the piece under the windshield is the worst.

The fender needs to be removed to properly fit the door. Once you have it aligned correctly you can install the fender. Post pics

Thanks for all of the info. Fender was removed. I reinstalled it last night. All is well except the gap between the fender and the cowl or whatever you call the cab piece under the windshield is about a half inch.

Need to see the top of the door as well. Stand back and take a few more pics. The door is not properly aligned, need to be in more at the front and looks like down a little. You will need to remove the fender to get it right.
