Steel dash differences?
« on: February 18, 2019, 09:38:33 PM »
Were the steel dashes different anytime from 73-87? I know the dash pads themselves changed but did the steel underneath change as well? Would a 73 dash pad fit in an 85 truck if I didn't care about year differences? Just wondering.

The steel dash (where everything is mounted to) is different between the years.  If you are talking the padded dash pad there are 3 styles.  73-78, 79-83 and 84 on up for the steel behind the cluster.  The oldest didn't have the VIN cut out due to it being on the door post.  I am sure there are other differences when it comes to where the light switch is mounted as well as the dimmer switch and wiper switch moving to the steering column in 1984

 I don’t know the answer

I put a 82 dash and door panels in a 76

But I not sure it will work the other way around

Headlight switch, wiper switch, radio, speaker, dash clip holes are the biggest differences. 73-74 have a different wiper switch location and headlight switch knob. You can mix and match with the appropriate modifications or pieces. Just pay attention to what year the steel frame

The newer dashes also had cutouts for small speakers on the left and right top of the dash, but I don't know when that option started.
