Title: Dana 44 - Bolt-on External Hubs-Should I Convert??
Post by: harcorshe on June 11, 2017, 01:43:49 PM
I have a 3/4 ton Chevy. It's a 1978, but the previous owner switched to a NP205 T-Case with Dana 44 (8 Lug).

It has the big bolt-on external hubs with the six bolt flange.  It has a Superwinch hubs, but one is broken.

My question: I can get replacement external hub (Warn and Mile Marker still make them) OR should I convert to the, supposedly, stronger internal hub design....

Anyone familiar with what would be required to make this switch? Spindles? Caliper mounting plates? Stub axles?

Thanks!!

I put the MM hubs on mine and they work great. No complaints.

Thanks! Certainly save some $$ and hassle.

I just want to be sure that I won't have to replace them in the future, because after taking the spindle and steering arm off (what evil genius invented "cone washers"??), I have resolved to never do that again without a really good reason.
