more about bucket seats?? heated
« on: February 12, 2007, 07:05:00 PM »
i picked up some really nice seats from an audi. there black leather and they are heated my questions is. how do i wire up the heated part. i cut the wires to get the seat out. but i left enough to add more wire.so there is a small green wire and a black wire than there is a big black one and the last one is black with white stripe. i looked at the switch in the car and those wires were different color??? so do i only need a ground and a hot to the four wires. thanks all replies will help.

Your heater element is going to pull a lot of current. You do not want to run high current through the switch so my advice is a nice relay set up with a low current switch and circuit protection so you don't burn down your truck.

Here ya go man, I wired it up for you :lol  I was bored waiting for my dog to finish getting groomed. So print this schematic and you can get these parts for around $10 bucks without burnin down the house.

Just in case you don't understand what I drew, the lines reducing in an inverted triangle represent a ground.

High current is switched through the relay with the larger circuit protection and adequate gauge wire.

Battery voltage is at cavity 30 of the relay from the 25 amp fuse.

Battery voltage is at cavity 85 of the relay from the ignition switch and is 5 amp fused.

When you close the switch on the dash it energizes the electromagnetic field in the relay closing the contacts in the relay and current flows from cavity 30 to cavity 87 to your heated seats.

Now if you want to control the seats individually we can do that too but this was just to give you an idea how a simple relay circuit works so you aren't running high current throughout the vehicle and the switch which is what causes most auto electric fires to occur!

Vile,
now if we were to run separate individual circuits to each seat would we need to use another relay and double up everything like another dash switch for the pass seat, another 30 amp fuse and another 5 amp fuse correct?I may have a lead on a set of grand cherokee seats and may go that route ..

thanks

Ideally if you want each one to work seperately yes two dedicated circuits would be better in case one malfunctions, however if you rob the heated seat module from the Grand Cherokee it's an easier set up.
