that is interesting because it says c10 on the fenders and dash, did not know that it was an r10. when i am messing with the switch in the dash i flipped it to the right hand tank and the gage will work, but when i switch it to the left hand tank the gage goes to the strait right position on the full side but i still do not hear the fuel pump running. i only have the left hand tank on it right now. not sure on exactly what is wrong with it, but it may be the valve so i will look into getting a new valve unless you guys think it is some thing else. i am up to suggestions. thanks in advance sam.

simplest thing would be to physically connect the lines from the left tank to the lines after the valve, and leave the selector switch on the dash set to the left tank.   If it still wont run, you'll have to get to the wiring under the dash behind the switch and connect them up manually.

You'd need a wiring diagram, i dont know which is which, but the switch itself controls the valve, as well as a line for each fuel pump, and each sending unit.   What you have to hard wire, are the leads for the fuel pump power, and the leads for the fuel gauge.  you wont have to worry about the leads for the valve.

Though it may be a bad switch too.  they used a foam dust seal on the switches and after a time the foam disentegrates and gets down on the contacts.  maybe a good cleaning would fix you up and you wouldnt have to do anything else.  I've had to do this on every dual tank truck i ever had.

here's a thread on refurbishing your switch.

The switch is different for carbureted vs tbi. If you look in my mutt project thread you will see where I just set one up. The selector valve there are two different options. If you want to bypass it then it's easy enough and we've had quite a few threads on this if you use the search function

i got it to run friday, i just kept switching the valve until it went to the left tank and it fired right up. i think that the switch in the dash is faulty. used it all day saturday to pull a manure spreader around in a field 8) and it seemed to work ok but it runs rough still.  :-\

would anyone have the diagram for the firing order on an 87 350 TBI v8 chevy R10 manuel 4 speed by chance??? ???
