Aviation enthusiast, but not a pilot.  Getting a license on my 'To-do list', but haven't made much progress the last few years.

It’s pretty inexpensive (relatively) around here to get a license. Most people with have around $5000 into it. Not terrible if you spread it over a couple years.

It looks like you have some pretty sweet trucks!

i agree that current automotive styling needs help and planes are wonderful and all that, but back to original topic:

Take a look at this:
https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/pts/d/1980-gmc-chevy-3-4-ton-4x4/6378536161.html

i'm not saying i can go and snatch it because it's not THAT close to me, BUT we can at least see if this is the correct grill you need or would be satisfied with.  i thought 80 was when they switched to rectangular headlights, but maybe not?

I thought 80 was the year of the rectangular headlights too.  Maybe that is an early 80?  I believe that is the correct grille and I found one near me on craigslist that is correct also but it sort of seems like the guy must need meth money or something judging by the ad.

https://nmi.craigslist.org/cto/d/1979-gmc-sarge/6363933736.html

I have emailed the guy and gotten no response yet.  I have found some on car-part.com but it seems like almost no one is willing to ship it.

A bit pricey, but there is one listed for a 77-80 GMC on eBay:

Holy Cow!!  That is almost as much as I paid for the truck!!  Beautiful grille and I would like to see the truck that gets put on. I bet it will be incredible.

I couldn’t stand the tube grilles back in the day. Now as time goes on I can stand them less.

I’m kinda like Vile is with the sun visors. Couldn’t stand those back in the day either. Get those things off your trucks.

As far as airplanes I plan on a a B-17 someday myself. I need to win the lottery because not only will I have to build one from scratch there isn’t many original parts to choose from. Oh well better finish the monster truck first.

Do you know years are the same as the 79?  I was under the impression the 79 was the start of the hood release being inside the truck so I thought the grille was different where the old exterior hood release was.  I am also starting to think that there are parts missing from my hood release.  Is there supposed to be a safety/secondary latch on exterior?  Mine doesn't have that, maybe it was removed because of the tube grille?

My ‘77 Scottsdale had an inside hood release and All square bodys should have had a secondary hood release.

It seemed kind of odd to me that there was no secondary release.  I will be getting that setup now too.

I have never been a fan either.  I suppose people used to "customize" their stuff because every other vehicle on the road was exactly alike.  Now that they are fewer and farther between the stock look is the best, in my opinion anyway.

The truck I bought has funky clearance lights so I bought the stock version and when it goes in for paint they are going on.

I am a P-51 man myself.  I don't suspect I will ever have to worry about how I am going to maintain and put fuel in one though.  :D

Best bet is to post a pic of the hood release, latch and hood striker.

My buddy and I were joking the other day. We took his factory grille out, snapped it in half, tossed it in the trash can to put in a tube grille. If only someone had said to us 'You are a jackass" maybe we would have saved half of the stuff we threw away.
