Got this several years ago. I travel the country for work with a travel trailer so dont need this monster lift. I had bought all the suspension to drop it back down and she kept getting put on the back burner. Got the front springs blasted the other day and going to start on her tomorrow.

Got to yank the springs off this guy now for the rear. Going to have to order more Teflon. Definitely not going to have enough extra from my other project.

This should be fun. My tall jack stands are under the cab of my orange truck.

So this was a PITA. Had to cut 4 bolts. The front bushing mounts was full of gravel that looked like concrete. Chipped away at one side then just decided to cut them both. My backing nut for matabo disc walked off so I had to hunt one down from a neighbor. Can't just run down the street to the store in the country. The rear bolt on the driver side got seized in the sleeve inside the bushing. Took about 30 min of heating it up with the impact, spraying PB blaster, and beating the other side with a BFH to get it free. So now I'm letting the bushings soak awhile before I try to push them out. Have a feeling I'm going to have to air chisel the sleeves on this set of springs. This set me back a day on getting everything blasted for paint.

I come up with a better way to press these out when the ball joint puller isn't long enough. I drilled a hole in the longest cup for the all thread, double nut that end. Grabbed the biggest socket that will slide through. Then the smallest socket that still fits over the all thread to turn backwards inside if it. Works just as good, and don't have to fight holding everything together.

Well it did work well on the front leaf springs. First time ive dont a shackle. The cup slipped off because of the raised edge. I put a notch in it and it stayed on fine. But my next problem is the sleeve is seized and the socket I have isn't a perfect O.D. So it started to get cockeyed and I backed off before I bent the all thread again. Going to have to go back to the ball joint clamp and a bolt to get the sleeve out and do it the hard way. Hoping the leafs soak enough before I get to the that the sleeves come out but doubt it.

Shackles are cheap, I'd just get new ones. I find that the fastest way to remove the old bushings is to take them outside, get them hot with the torch which allows you to quickly pop the guts out and then I use the air hammer to take mamma home.

Ya, I've seen people do that. My torch bottles are empty. On the front leafs all the guts popped out as fast as the impact would run. Was hoping these shackles would act the same but I'm fixing to trash them. I've split this all the way through and it ain't budging. Was hoping to save a few bucks but I'm not going to fight it anymore. Got to get these leafs apart so I can get everything blasted at once for these trucks.

Had to do some rearranging to the shop so I can set the cab and motor on my other truck. Also had some propane issues in the shop so I gathered up a wood stove and plumbing to heat water and run through some spare truck radiators before winter hits hard. Got my computer tuned for the 5.3 also, picked it up today. But back on these dang springs, hard part is done. Going to drop them off in the morning and pick up some other stuff for the other truck. Hopefully they get them done before I leave town tomorrow. If not I got plenty other stuff to work on.
