On a 1987 pickup with 2 tanks how does the switching valve work?  Does the power for the pumps run through the valve or does it run directly from the relay back to the pumps?  I have a dead truck and I have already replaced the fuel pump in one tank(it really was bad) and now I still get nothing.  I know it will run because I fed it some starter fluid and it fired right up.  Any help would be appreciated

The power to the pumps should run through the valve.  Are the pumps coming on?
