Bore out 350 or Swap 454
« on: October 13, 2019, 08:38:23 PM »
73' C20

Getting way ahead of myself... As my truck has sat for three months with a knocking noise.

But, if I need to pull the engine, worst case, for cylinder work...
Is now the time to hone larger or swap for a 454 crate block?

Thoughts?
Prices?
Experiences?

What transmission do you have?
What is your budget and power goals?
You cant swap 350sbc parts onto a 454bbc block. You would need to buy everything else to complete the 454. You would literally have to build the entire engine from the block.

Do you know how many miles are on the 350?

If miles are reasonably low, you might have a stuck lifter. I've heard some that sounded like bad rod bearings. Try some Rislone.

You won't know much until you tear down the motor and take measurements.

If you find a running 454 in good shape you will have the hardware/accessories required to do the swap.
