ok so i want to get a supercharger for my 350 and i was looking at the weiand 177 and weiand 144 and was wondering if it will stick out the hood of my 77 k20... i really want the blower to stick out with a hood scoop on it. if not are there spacers or something that i can buy to make the supercharger sit higher?
-
i doubt it. The thing about making the supercharger sit higher is now the relationship between the drive pulleys is different from the original design---do you want the hassle of extra engineering?
You might get the measurements of a big block and an 6-71 and see if it will peak over the hoodline.
-
i don't have a big block... so your saying that i wont have a hood scoop if i get a 144 or 177? i don't care so much as the actual supercharger sticking out but i want a hood scoop like on this.. i would get a 6-71 but i don't want to get a lot of engine work done for the blower.... its not like i drag race or anything can you change how much boost it gives? how do i know if my crate engine can handle the boost?
i think this truck has a 350 and a 6-71

stack spacers between the carb and scoop. It will look weird with the hood up tho

they are cool looking, but IMO the sleeper look is so much better as you are not advertising what is under the hood, that way someone can't decide they want to have the truck more than you.

i don't want the sleeper look because i use my truck at car shows and when you have a hood scoop it adds a wow factor

yes but looking at the photo it doesn't look like a 144 will have a hood scoop because he is running the 671 and a 144 is about the same height with a carburetor and air filter as the 6-71 is with out carburetors and air filters.

We do have a lot of engine compartment to fill, that's for sure. One reason it barely sticks out is because the injector plate and hat is roughly the size of a carb without a cleaner on it. I have made a few changes since the post the capt listed. Got rid of the 3" spacer, the fuel injection, and the bug catcher. Now running 2 carbs and a shotgun scoop. Went from an over all height of 18 11/16" to 21 1/2". A gain of over 3" in height. So I'm thinking with the difference in case sizes, a carb spacer, and maybe a shotgun scoop, you may get the height you want. Of course this is just my 2Ȼ.
Surely someone on here is running one of these and will chime in
-
That was just for height reference indicating it won't stick through the hood.
If you want it to stick through the hood, you will need to get something other than an underhood blower.
This is a small underhood blower...

that makes sense. there is no denying the "wow" factor at car shows. people flock to them, myself included.

yea there are hardly any 73-87 trucks that attend the car shows i goto and 90% of them are late 80s and iv never seen one with a blower yet

i'm not into non-functional scoops myself, but this should get your tail wagging:
