Winter storage
« on: December 22, 2009, 01:01:41 AM »
Well i am going off to college for six months and i have to leave my 76 at home. I live in northern alberta, canada so the weather gets quite chilly. we just had our cold spell of the year (-30 - -55C) and the truck ran fine. while i am gone it will probably stay within the -20C range for another 2-3 months. I already have one of my buddies coming over every few weeks to start it up and let it run but i just wanted some suggestions on what i should do to while its parked so nothing seizes up and it still runs good in the summer when i get home.
thanks
p.s.  it has a 350 with turbo 350 tranny mated to a np203 and a dana 44 and 14 bolt rear.

i always jack up the axel at the sides to let the oil hit the seals and end of the tubes, always told that it helps

If it will be sitting for a few months, you might want to add some Sta-bil fuel stabilizer or something similar to the fuel, even if it is still started every so often. Your fuel system will appreciate it. Is it going to be stored outside or in some sort of building, heated or not? Brrr, I can't imagine that kind of cold!

A dehumidifier is a must if it's in a garage. Change your fluids and add that fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery too.
