The black 'nose' with the orange paint is slick. Hard to believe you started this project almost 10 years ago and I remember then it came after the 74 re-do was started but before or after Pinky?.

Yeah i got this truck from a buddy whose father wanted it out of his yard. It was to be the recipient of donor parts to complete its frankenbuild but many things happened after I started on this one. I changed jobs, crashed my Harley into Bambi and got all busted up, many girlfriends, lost my dog, took on major construction projects at my house, built two new decks, put in a pool, dropped a couple hundred trees, new roof, new gutters new windows, new doors, insulation, boiler, domestic water treatment system, had two kids etc etc and I keep going on these projects slowly but surely some how. One thing I've done is pushed them off for the nicer weather especially since I've had this excavator at my house. I would rather play in that thing all day than do body work that's for sure!I'm not happy with the fitment of the drivers side fender so I am swapping it out with another one. Another setback

PPG base coat clear coat.

Is that your normal go to paint? I like the Nason(Dupont) paints over PPG, but PPG still has good paint for the cost.

I really like the look of the truck, can't wait to see it all finished up.

No it's expensive and not very forgiving in my opinion. I've had better luck with Akzo Nobel paints and saved $$ but I don't mix brands once I start with something so it'll be in PPG.

Nice looking truck! What did you use for the cab floor and firewall some kind of bed liner?

How much paint did you end up using on the cab, fenders, and hood? I am thinking of something like 1.5 gallons mixed should be plenty enough to do inside and out on my truck, I am leaving the bed for later, as it needs work and is cheap aftermarket(thin and fitment of rear is off). I know an old school VW bug took about 1.5 gallons, the last time I did one, and I think the bug has a little more area. Just don't want to find myself in bind needing paint, first time I'm doing a full size truck.

It really depends on how many coats. I used 3x what a body shop would use plus I decided to change out the doors and the hood after painting them because I wasn't happy with the fitment. Now with my level of analism I am going to replace the LF fender because I want this to be perfect. So more paint. lol

Prefit all of your body panels, do all of your body work and I suggest waiting at least 2 weeks before painting due to shrinkage. Be 100% happy before you decide to shoot and 2 gallons should cover you inside and out. If you are only doing the outside just get a gallon. Always better to have extra from the same batch.

Two gallons it is, I just finished the body work, just need to find the right time to to start spraying. I'm not going all out on this truck as it will be a work/daily truck, but I do want it to look good...the first scratch is still going to hurt though, i keep thinking of different ways it will happen...
