power window trouble, please help!!
« on: July 03, 2008, 10:02:03 PM »
I have a 1986 Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton 4x4.  I love the truck and after five years of rebuilding she is almost done.  I am having fits with the power windows.  I replaced the driver's and passenger's side window motors thinking I was going to have great results, Wrong.  The driver's side will barely go up and down and the passenger side will only go down using the driver's side control.  I have resoldered any wire that was breaking at the switch connection and I have replaced both switches.  I don't know where to go next.  Does anyone have a schematic of the power window wiring, or any suggestions?  Please help!

check the wires in the door jamb. they are probably broken and corroded.

Did you lubricate the tracks when you replaced the motors.  What does the spring look like in the assembly?  What does the channel felt look like?

Upgrade to manual windows and your problems are solved  ;D

I've replaced the motors before (on my old truck that had power windows), with similar results as far as the slow movement..The final verdict ended up being weak replacement motors, went through 4 remans and 2 all new motors before getting the 7th motor which turned out to be good..

I have replaced all the felt so it is tight.  i just lubricated it with some spray lubricant with no better results.  I am sure the reman motors are just weak.  The main problem is the fact that the passenger's side won't roll up at all, and only roll down with the driver's side switch.
