Windshield wiper question
« on: February 13, 2012, 10:46:50 AM »
Hey all,

The wipers on my 82 K30 cycle when I turn the key on and also when hitting bumps in the road.  They cycle only once, maybe twice, then stops.

Is this a wiper switch problem?  Or is it something else?

I thought about rebuilding or replacing the switch when the weather improved, but wanted to know if anyone else had this problem and what was done to fix it before I tore into the truck.

Thanks in advance.

Does your 82 have intermediate windshield wipers ?  If so I would suspect a short in the wiper switch.

I forgot to mention that, it does have the intermediate wipers.

I figured it was the switch because the wipers would cycle with the slightest touch on the switch.

I finally got a chance to look into the problem.  I took apart the switch (look out for the spring and ball to fly apart), found some corrosion so I cleaned up the copper/brass contacts with vinegar to shine them up, sprayed a little WD40 to lube everything up and put it back together.  So far that solved my problems, no random wiper cycling and the switch works smoother.  Now on to fix more problems.

Glad you got the problem fixed (fingers crossed).

Hope this will help someone else in the future with the same problem.
