Title: OIL PUMP ? ? ?
Post by: kfoz on August 12, 2009, 07:38:34 PM
Hello all!

what's the best oil pump to use in my stock '78 350???  Isn't there is a HIGH PRESSURE pump and a HIGH VOLUME pump?  I may as well install a new pump while I am replacing the rear main seal and the pan gasket!

Please advise and thanks!

I read somewhere that the stock type oil pump is more than adaquate for what I assume is a stock application.  I am sure I will be corrected if I am mistaken.

+1.  Stick with a stock volume pump.  If you wish to do your oiling system a small favor, disassemble the pump and apply a nice radius to the internal exit passage.  Also relieve and radius the inlet at the rear main cap.

yes, use a stock pump and pick up but use a steel sleeve driveshaft. Put a tack weld or jb weld around the pick up after you set it.
