automatic transmission problem
« on: August 23, 2007, 07:47:00 AM »
1981 k10, 0-35 shifts in and out like its going in passing gear then when it should shift at about 40-45 it winds out and then finaly shifts but if you slow down a little it shifts in and out again, its not slipping its just shifting.  ive checked the fluid and its full and there doesnt appear to be any vacuum hoses off, any help would be appreciated, thx

What transmission do you have? So are you saying you have very late upshifts and and very early downshifts? If so check the gear on the governer valve. It's probably apple cored

Are you checking the fluid while engine is running?  I hope so.

I'd start, other that what Vile said, w/ the modulator and vacuum line to it.  It controls shift points.

I'll answer your questions if you answer mine. What trans do you have?

Apple core - think of how people eat an apple

the governer cover needs to be removed and then slide the governer out.

all u need is the nylon gear. Any dealer should have it in stock or a transmission parts supply house will have it.
