Looking at 1975 4x4 pick up. Help!!!
« on: May 31, 2010, 11:53:36 PM »
I am looking at a 1975 short bed 4x4 chevrolet pickup.  Being sold by the 2nd owner who has owned it for all but 6mos of its life.  It has 200880 miles on it with 44000 on 2nd motor.  350 with auto trans.  It needs paint but body if very sound with very little rust.  The old gal drives very well.  No smoke and drives stright down the road.  It seems like a very sound truck.  Needs little things like a new dash and ect.  My questions is how much should a guy have to pay for a truck like this.  Again a 1/2 ton 4 x 4 silverado with 200000. plus miles on it.  I am new to your site and look forward to learning a lot from you all.  Thanks.

It has power steering and power breaks.  Like I said it has very little rust and body is sound.  The owner does his own maintenance and changes oil every 2500 miles.  Seems like a good old sound truck.  Thanks for responding to my question.

$2200.00. :-\  With a paint job I think will make a good daily driver.  Not into restoring it at this point.  Just want something dependable and fun to drive.  And as we live in the hills in Oregon the 4 x 4 could come in handy in the snow.

IF it's a nice as you say, I'd offer $1,800 and see what he/she says.  Add in $1,200 for body work and paint and you have a nice daily driver (and a classic truck) for $3,000.  Up here in the northeast $1,000 gets you a mostly-driveable rust bucket and $2,000 gets you the same truck with a $600 paint job with the same rust poking through.

Post some pics!

technically it is only worth what the next owner was willing to pay, so put something out there that you can live with.  Look for comparables and see what they have.

I called a local car lot that sell a lot of pickups and talked to him for some time.  It is like some of you have said it is worth what someone will pay for it. I just called the seller and told him I would take if for 1900 and he came back with 2100.  We settled at 1975.00.  So with a good paint job I will have a good daily driver.  I will send be for and after pictures when I get it done.  Thanks everyone for your impute.

It needs paint really bad and the inside needs to be fixed up but the body and engine and running gear are very sound.  I plan on spending another 4,000.00 on it and should have a good sound daily driver.  Thanks for looking and your feed back.  Have a good weekend.
