It could have been worse...
«

So last Sunday as we left church I heard a sound from the rear end. My very first thought was that it sounded like a C-clip was gone and that passenger axle was gonna pass me on the road. By the grace of God I made it home in one piece....kinda!
So there's a little metal on the diff cover...
A couple of teeth in the bottom...
And just a couple teeth missing.
plus to top it all off the carrier is cracked! I have a grand total of 2 3\4 teeth left in the LSD for the passenger axle drive gear.

Add a little bit of this...
And this....
Then take this out for ease of mock-up and installation...

Except for the actual install and finding my mag base I have a huge head start.

So this video will tells a little more of the story. Never had a differential mess up on me but bad pinion bearing, cracked carrier...sounds like a recipe for destroying gears!

Yea, but this one almost lasted 30years so I guess it was a better batch!
I got the axle stripped except the outer axle bearings and pinion races. Gonna clean it up, make my mock-up bearings and start this install. We are starting to get a good bit of rain and I realize now that my bike would be less dangerous if it didn't have so much power pumping from that 109cid v-twin... Or maybe I should just ease up on the throttle... Who know.

Man, diffs are going like crazy lately. Ironically my brother put nitto 555r tires on his '66 c10, and although he was warned about the diff being stock and 30 years old he kept launching it hard and destroyed the diff...he just got new 4.10s and a posi installed since. It's a shame his 3.73s were destroyed, would have been a nice upgrade from my 3.42s

OK since I got the Auburn ECTED I had to get the bearings specified for it so no master rebuild kit. I need to get the inner(larger) pinion bearing but I do not know what size it to s and I don't trust the guy behind the counter. Anyone here know the right bearing and race? I'm sure I have the right race BC I got the old one out and it's M802011

Burnouts kill em pretty quick. Spinning the wheels when stuck does it too.
Tires larger than original designs...

And differential gurus out there?
I'm gonna post pics of my tooth pattern. My pinion depth is .001 from the required depth so it's good and my lash is .001 tight @ .005 vice .006. I just would like some expert opinions on my tooth pattern.
