'86 Chevy 1500 stepside 2WD: Came factory with 4.3L V6 with 3 SPD-OD (4 SPD) trans. I have swapped in an early Generation II LT-1 350 that I have converted to carb and a 700R4 trans. The LT-1 seems very healthy.........but has been a nightmare. The cost of parts is double. Can you say fabrication? Timing chain worn out(800.00), I don't think so! Replaced with standard chain and did away with cam driven water pump. Changed Opti-spark distributor to performance HEI. Was not impressed by the crank hub with bolt on balancer (no key way and it had spun on the crank). Rebalanced the engine to fluidamr........not even March builds a pulley for it. Riggs Machine and Welding took a Ford serpantine pulley and built a custom pulley. Retained the serpantine bracketry.......AC compressor is supposed to be where the frame rail is. Anyone ever built thier own AC compressor bracket? Looking for ideas.......
