Steering wheel restore success
« on: April 17, 2019, 01:31:03 PM »
I’ve been slowly working on my trucks interior. My father-n-law has a truck carcass around a 1976 or so that has been sitting on his mountain rotting since the mid-80s. I got the steering wheel out of it and decided to restore it. I washed it in dawn and mean green then let it soak in both overnight.

Before:

After washing/soaking, sanding, and cleaning with TSP:

After painting with rustoleum american accents paint+primer semi-gloss black base and also clear coat. Used what i had laying around for the emblem which was Miracal metallic decorative finish and then the rustoleum clear coat. I probably should of used an adhesion promoter on the wheel and emblem, but didn’t. We will see how it holds up. I might eventually paint the inside of the chevy emblem yellow, but not sure the best way to do it.

That looks great!

Thank you Jason. I’m very happy how it turned out. Now I need to paint my door panels, kick panels, trim, dash, etc. haha
