Well, I know what is hitting it, had lots of bags of soil, mulch, that sort of thing in the bed, on way home from wmart, when hitting a drop in the road, or bump, I could hear the scrape. Why is this hitting, can I cut a space in this stupid rivited on box? And why is it rivited, and not simple bolts?

Looks like a bracket for a bearing on a two piece driveshaft. If so grind the rivets off and pull the bracket
-
I agree, it does look like it would be a carrier bearing mount. If you're never going back to a 2 piece drive shaft, just cut the entire mount out.
-
Yup, so far that’s the plan. Thanks

Well I unriveted that useless box, gone! Cleaned the area and painted. Looks like it was never there. Will add pic when I get a chance.

Aww man! Why did you remove your roadkill-scraper-mount? ;D
